Amid almost daily reports of horrific hate crimes against Asian Americans and transgender Americans Mike Huckabee is massively criticized for posting a hateful, racist, anti-Asian, transphobic tweet that is also directed against democracy amid an increase in malicious and violent hate crimes.
Huckabee is the host of “Huckabee” on the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN) and the father of GOP gubernatorial candidate Sarah Huckabee Sanders of Arkansas, the former Trump White House Press Secretary. For decades, Huckabee has played the role of a conservative Christian, using his faith as a sword and shield.
“I’ve decided to identify as Chinese,” Huckabee tweeted on Saturday. “Coke will like me, Delta will agree with my ‘values’ and I will likely get Nike shoes and tickets to @MLB games. Isn’t America great? “he asked, mocking the millions of Americans who were angry that Georgia Republican Governor Brian Kemp had incorporated the law to suppress the nation’s worst voters. On Friday, Major League Baseball drew the All-Star Game out of Atlanta, and hundreds of companies and organizations have denounced legislation designed to make voting even more difficult, especially for the state’s black and low-income voters.
Huckabee, an ordained Baptist minister who ran for Republican Party’s presidential nomination but failed twice, is the former governor of Arkansas. He has a long history of attacking minorities, especially LGBTQ people.
Many across the country reacted in horror when a New York man assaulted a 65-year-old Asian American woman in a hate crime, repeatedly kicking her in the stomach, falling to the ground, and then stomping her head multiple times. Mal went viral last week. A few weeks ago, a shooter massacred eight people in an Asian spa in Atlanta. Six of the eight murdered were Asian-Americans.
Huckabee’s attack takes place on Holy Saturday, just the day before Easter, a hugely important holiday for people around the world of the Christian faith who celebrate what they believe to be the resurrection of Christ.
This is far from the first time Huckabee has been accused of racism.
“2020 was the deadliest year for the transgender community,” said ABC Tampa.
“In 2020 there were 122 cases of hate crimes against Asian Americans in 16 of the country’s most populous cities, an increase of nearly 150%,” reports Voice of America.
