Trump Allies Concern Democrats’ ‘Compelling’ Impeachment Case Will Finish His Political Profession Ceaselessly: Report
According to a report by Politico, Donald Trump’s close allies now fear his second impeachment trial could have far-reaching implications for his ability to revive his political career as Democrats are likely to focus on the horror of the January 6 storm of the Capitol, which the former president is accused of incitement.
While few, if any, Republican senators are likely to vote with Democrats on the impeachment articles, officials say the ex-president will be harmed again from reliving the events of that day nationwide.
Worse still, the report said, the ex-president is already a damaged item in the eyes of some Republicans.
“The former president, whom the House Democrats have accused of inciting the rioters to a rally earlier that same day, is already bloodedly supportive of the GOP. Recent public polls have shown that support from Republican voters for a possible Trump comeback offer in 2024 has fallen sharply, ”reports Politico. “And a televised trial reminding voters and lawmakers of the troubling moments when MAGA supporters attacked law enforcement officers and broke into the Capitol could hurt its future political aspirations even more.”
Even former White House adviser Steve Bannon, an ardent supporter of the re-running president, is concerned about the aftermath.
“The Democrats have a very emotional and compelling case,” said Bannon. “They will try to judge him in the eyes of the American people and smear him forever.”
According to the report, Trump’s attorneys are also concerned about the path the process might take and hope they can narrow the scope to the constitutionality of the process.
“Trump’s legal team appear to have similar concerns that the trial will result in a high-profile retelling of the riots and his role in them over the next week,” the report said, before adding, “Concern among Trump’s allies that the Trial will be a relitigation The events at the Capitol underscore the extent to which next week is viewed as a public relations matter for the optically obsessed former president, but there is little that Trump’s team can do to prevent the trial from leading to discussion on Aug. January leads as impeachment managers are likely to be very focused on the riot – and could actually call witnesses to testify what happened. “
The report adds, “People familiar with Trump’s strategy say his defense lawyers David Schoen and Bruce Castor hope to keep the process short and sweet – rather than get involved in a long debate about whether their comments are theirs Stop the Steal Clients “A rally outside the White House is considered stimulating speech or legitimizes prosecution arguments by focusing on January 6th.”
