Sinema Slammed for Touring With Trump-Loving Republican and Praising the ‘Racist’ Filibuster

US Senator Kyrsten Cinema On Wednesday, the United States Customs and Border Protection toured migrant facilities in their home state of Arizona and praised the Senate filibuster who stands in the way of passing important voter protection laws in a bipartisan 50-50 Senate.

Sinema, a Conservative Democrat who is coming under increasing fire not only for her right-wing election result (she voted 50.4% of the time with President Donald Trump, according to FiveThirtyEight), but also for her aloof and callous behavior that some Democrats see and resistance to securing the democratic agenda.

Large and growing numbers of Democrats are demanding that Senate majority leader Chuck Schumer kill the filibuster, a relic from the Jim Crow era that “was designed and used for decades to thwart civil rights legislation,” as early as 99 Years.

Senator Sinema, along with her Conservative Democratic Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia, held on steadfastly to the filibuster and refused to even think about having it killed.

On Thursday, the news of her trip spread far right Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) who voted to thwart the commission in the January 6 uprising, a vote Sinema didn’t even make.

Sinema spread disinformation about the filibuster on Wednesday (video below, full video here.)

She called it “a tool that will protect our nation’s democracy instead of allowing our country to bounce wildly between policies every two to four years,” while ignoring the attacks on American democracy by Republicans like Senator Cornyn who so have gone so far as to support the violent and deadly uprising and then try to wash it off.

“The idea of the filibuster was developed by those who came before the US Senate to create comity and encourage senators to be non-partisan and work together. And while there are some who do not believe that bipartisanism is possible. I think I am a daily example of the fact that bipartisanism is possible, not just this trip today and tomorrow that John and I did, but also the work that John and I and I and many other of my colleagues and both parties regularly take care of .”

Sinema called herself “a cheerful and happy warrior” who “aggressively seeks non-partisanship” and also claimed that the filibuster was “created as a tool to bring members of different parties together to find compromises and coalitions”.

That doesn’t happen anymore, and as former deputy chief of staff to the Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said last week, the filibuster is currently destroying our democratic form of government:

It is actually the filibuster who is destroying our government. Ending it would put our government back to work, as it did in the 200+ years before the super-majority threshold was used with any regularity in the Senate. https://t.co/TEnZGPF7u6

She also claimed the filibuster was “protecting”.[ing] the rights of the minority, of the majority, regardless of which party is in the majority of the time. “

Sinema falsely claims that the filibuster was “created as a tool to bring members of different parties together”.

Either wildly naive or deliberately deceptive. pic.twitter.com/t7zWqgO70U

Many are now criticizing Sinema for its recent self-inflicted wound.

Here is former NYC Democratic Council spokesperson Melissa Mark-Viverito:

Minority rule was never the intention. Corrupted beyond recognition by the original iteration, the filibuster has become the weapon of choice for those dedicated to maintaining white supremacy. https://t.co/V6WDzBXMNb

More:

Sinema is not who she said she was when she ran. She is a hideous opportunist who makes a living off the work of others and drops every card to get what she wants. https://t.co/jVOaZ5HtqW

A US Senator unfamiliar with basic political history. Seems good for the 2020s. https://t.co/k8IJO5KgUg

@SenatorSinema Ah, there is no bipartisan WTF that you are talking about? What you are doing is frustrating progress. Either do your job or the hell out of the way. Our democracy is in jeopardy and you are here, fat face turning shit. https://t.co/t9ZFju0BGi

Two solid minutes of nonsense. The filibuster “does not protect democracy”; all it protects is white supremacy. It was not “created” to achieve any goal; it came from a mistake. And the GOP has made it clear that they will not work together on anything. This is a massive mistake. https://t.co/lPFgiY12L7
