Ron Johnson Has Made It ‘Very Troublesome’ to Win Re-Election by Peddling Conspiracy Theories: McConnell Ally
Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI) was criticized Thursday by an ally of Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) for creating unsubstantiated conspiracy theories about Antifa that sparked the January 6th Capitol riot.
Scott Jennings, a CNN political commentator who also worked on McConnell’s Senate campaigns, told the network Thursday that Johnson put himself in a bad position as he entered a 2022 Senate race that is a must for Republicans.
“I think, for political reasons, Senator Johnson has taken up some positions in Wisconsin and said some things that I think will make it very difficult for him to get re-elected there if he’s running again,” Jennings said. “So I don’t know what the political future for this Senate race will be, but this will be one of those races in a 50/50 Senate that will determine control, and I don’t know if I have a Senate race try to revise what happened on January 6th is the best way forward. “
Jennings highlighted Johnson’s allegations about left-wing agitators, who Trump supporters identified as particularly problematic as violent fanatics.
“We all watched TV and saw the court files and we all saw the video [of the MAGA riots]”Jennings said.” We know who was in the Capitol and we should just accept it and try to keep it from happening again.
