Joe Manchin Insists His Opposition to First Girl of Colour OMB Nominee ‘Is Not Private’
US Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) reacts to massive criticism of him in the last few days, which culminates in allegations of sexism and racism. Against his announcement, he opposes President Joe Biden’s decision to head the bureau of administration and housekeeping.
“Oh come on,” Manchin, who heads the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, told NBC News’ Garrett Haake when asked about his opposition to Neera Tanden, “it’s not personal at all.” No no. “
Manchin announced their opposition to Tanden on Friday, opening the door to three Republicans who were to follow almost immediately: Senators Susan Collins, Mitt Romney and Rob Portman, then declaring their opposition.
Tanden is a woman of color. She was born the daughter of Indian immigrants and has been president of the liberal think tank Center for American Progress for nearly a decade. She also served in the Clinton and Obama White House and as an adviser to Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.
She has been attacked by some people and Republicans for her admittedly nasty tweets, many of which she deleted, apparently to show remorse. She also apologized repeatedly.
But Tanden is not the only woman Manchin is against, nor is she the only woman with color.

US MP Deb Haaland (D-NM) is President Biden’s election as Secretary of the Interior. She would be the first Native American to run the agency for over $ 20 billion and the first Native American cabinet secretary.
Manchin said he was unsure of her nomination on Monday.
Those would be two of President Biden’s decisions that Manchin appears to oppose, both skin-colored women and neither of the reasons why they are not qualified.
Manchin also reportedly “sniffed” Vice President Kamala Harris late last month after visiting West Virginia to raise support for the government’s coronavirus aid package.
Many say they are starting to see a pattern with Manchin, a Democrat so conservative that three Republicans are to his left. This pattern involves paying great respect to Republican presidents and male candidates, especially white male candidates, as evidenced by his electoral history.
Sexism is not “personal” but a pattern. There’s always a “justification” for treating someone the way you want, but the pattern of @Sen_JoeManchin treating Trump’s white male candidates with more respect and respect than Tanden makes it discriminatory.
