Historian Mocks Trump for Requesting ‘Main Ship-Off’ on Inauguration Day

President Donald Trump now plans to leave the White House on the morning of January 20, hours before Joe Biden is sworn in as the 46th President of the United States.

But the outgoing president, ashamed of his record, his gloomy approval ratings and now two impeachments, is furious – and still calls for a “big farewell” that he probably won’t get.

“Trying to get a final glimpse of the president’s grandeur, Trump has asked for a grand farewell before a final presidential flight to Palm Beach the next day, according to those familiar with the matter,” reports CNN.

Historian Michael Beschloss, who is generally a bit stoic on social media, mocked the outgoing president on Friday morning.

Does anyone have any recommendations for the kind of “major send-off” Trump supposedly wants for himself on inauguration day?

Like a three-year-old who stages a tantrum because it’s not his birthday.
“Trump asked for a grand farewell on the day of his inauguration next week,” reports CNN.

“Trump told people he didn’t like the idea of leaving Washington one last time as ex-president and boarding a plane that is no longer known as Air Force One,” added CNN. “He also didn’t particularly like the idea of asking Biden to use the plane, according to someone familiar with the matter.”

This “big farewell” will be difficult to organize with the White House staff almost all gone. Top aides and staff packed up their offices this week, with reports of what some call “looting”. A former White House official accused a top Trump adviser of photographing a large framed photo for “illegal” activity.

Resolve also sarcastically charged the removal of federal government artifacts and property from the White House:

No, you can’t keep the presidential limo.

And no, the Resolute desk wouldn’t look great in Mar-a-Lago.

Make sure Mar-a-Lago isn’t suddenly adorned with portraits of Gilbert Stuart and Borglum’s bust of Abraham Lincoln.

In the meantime, the remaining staff are working “to organize a crowd to see him off on the morning of Biden’s inauguration.”

That morning, Joe and Jill Biden will wake up at Blair House, a four-19th century building also known as the President’s Guest House. The State Dept. offered it to the new President and First Lady because President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump “refuse to contact the new President and First Lady.”
