From Civil Conflict to Civil Rights: Native historian showcases African American exhibit | Information

Visitors to the American Civil War Museum in Appomattox will be faced with the portraits and stories of African Americans who served various roles in both the background and foreground of American history from 1865 to the Civil Rights timeframe.

The exhibition was designed and researched by Rev. Al Jones, a local historian. These stories are echoes of the story that haunts Jones.

Jones could be described as a miner combing the remains of history. Through his commitment and thanks to the evidence of connections, he was able to piece together the untold stories of several African American characters.

The portraits and accounts of these characters from the landscape of American history may make the visitor ask for more as these stories are truncated due to the small number of records or clues.
