Dem Sen. Kyrsten Sinema Doubles Down on Defending Jim Crow Period Filibuster: ‘Not Open to Altering Her Thoughts’

Arizona Democratic Senator Kyrsten Sinema recently doubled her objection to the Senate’s removal of the Senate filibuster rule.

A Washington Post report on Monday indicated that many Senate Democrats believe minority leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) will continue a pattern of disability if the filibuster rule is maintained.

“There is absolutely no reason to give Senator McConnell months and months to prove what we absolutely know – that he will continue his stalemate and dysfunction against the minority,” Senate spokesman Eli Zupnick told the newspaper .

Democrats have a slim majority, which means that even a defect could hamper efforts to repeal the filibuster rule.

West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin has emerged as the most vocal Democratic opponent of filibuster reform.

But Sinema has also made it clear that it will not follow its democratic colleagues. Her office recently said she is “unwilling to change her mind”.

A Sinema spokeswoman told the Post that the senator “is against the elimination of the filibuster and she is unwilling to change her mind about the elimination of the filibuster”.
