Rasoul proposes Virginia Marshall Plan for Mothers

ROANOKE, VA. (WDBJ) – Delegate Sam Rasoul advocates a “Marshall Plan for Mothers” to become Virginia’s next lieutenant governor.

The Roanoke Democrat released the proposal on Tuesday.

“What we saw during the COVID pandemic is that mothers have really taken a hit, only objectively in terms of job losses, lost income and then psychological stress,” Rasoul told WDBJ7. “So we have to step up and make sure we know we are raising the whole family when we raise a mother.”

Rasoul’s plan includes universal access to childcare, paid family medical leave, a caregiver tax credit, expanded sick leave access, an increase in the minimum wage, and other suggestions.

He said he would also add a maternal advocate director to the senior officers of the lieutenant governor’s office.

“You see, we are the eighth richest state in the nation. It depends on where we’re going to prioritize our expenses, and right now, moms really need the elevator. “

Rasoul is one of eight Democrats currently running for lieutenant governor.
