The Workers Compensation Research Institute is hosting a free webinar on June 24th on its recently published “FlashReport, Interstate Variation and Trends in Workers’ Compensation Drug Payments: 2017Q1 to 2020Q1”.
Two of the study’s authors, Dr. Vennela Thumula and Dongchun Wang, will discuss key findings and answer questions, including:
- Which drug groups account for most of the payments for prescription drugs in employee remuneration?
- Are payments for opioids and compounds still declining and which groups are taking their place?
- How big are the international differences in payments for the different drug groups?
- Has the cost of any of the drug groups in any state been driven up by the dispensing of doctors?
- Has total prescription drug spending changed during the study period and the first quarter of the pandemic?
The 28 states in the study are Arkansas, California, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
Each quarter, prescriptions issued and paid for under workers compensation insurance were considered for all medical claims with injuries that occurred within three years of the prescription fulfillment date.
