US Representative Kevin Brady, a member of Congress since 1997, will retire at the end of his term next year. The 66-year-old powerful Republican from Texas will have served in the home for a quarter of a century after serving in his state legislature for six years.

Brady, whose active Twitter feed is filled daily with partisan lies reflecting the latest GOP discussion points, served as chairman of the Ways and Means Committee for four years until 2019. He is now its ranking member.
Brady, a hard core conservative, has voted against LGBTQ people at every turn.
“I’m for equality, not special rights,” he said of the LGBTQ Equality Act in 2019, claiming it would “create greater inequality, undermine Texans’ fundamental rights and religious freedom, and punish individuals for their personal views.”
Responding to the 2015 Supreme Court landmark marriage, Brady said his “strong, sincere belief is that marriage is a union between a man and a woman. The Supreme Court should have ratified the 10th Amendment to the Constitution and left this fundamental issue to the electorate and their elected representatives in each state. “
Brady has voted against the re-approval of the Violence Against Women Act, against the prohibition of discrimination in the workplace on the basis of sexual orientation, and has voted to constitutionally define marriage as only between a man and a woman.
Last year Brady said he was “honored” to receive an award from the anti-LGBTQ hate group Family Research Council:

The Texas Tribune, announcing Brady’s resignation, calls his district a “strong Republican stronghold” and says it is “difficult … to see a scenario where this seat becomes a competitive area for Democrats”.
