US Congressman Quits GOP – Turns into an Impartial Over Trump’s ‘Unfounded’ Election ‘Conspiracy Theories’

US Representative Paul Mitchell from Michigan has just left the Republican Party. The 64-year-old three-term congressman cited President Donald Trump’s “unfounded conspiracy theories” in connection with the 2020 election and attacks on immigrants, from his reaction to the neo-Nazi rally in Charlottesville to his younger “anti-immigrants” – Previous broadcast “Rhetoric” as reasons why he is now an independent member of Congress.

“As elected members of Congress, we take the oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States and not to protect and protect the political interests of any individual, be it the President or any other, to the detriment of our valued nation,” it says it in his letter, as reported by CNN.

Late last month, he beat up President Donald Trump on social media:

Oh dear God. . @ realDonaldTrump Please, in the interest of our nation, drop these arguments without evidence or factual basis. #stopthestupid https://t.co/IMMImXrckV

He also criticized Trump for his recent attacks on the judiciary.

“It is unacceptable for political candidates to treat our electoral system as if we were a third world nation and arouse suspicion of something as fundamental as the sanctity of our voting,” he wrote. “Also, it is unacceptable for the President to attack the United States Supreme Court because its liberal and conservative judges did not rule with his side or that the Court failed him. It was the goal of our founding fathers to isolate the Supreme Court from such obvious political motivations. “

On Sunday he tweeted several times against Trump and once said: “Continuing this circus is just … so harmful … so unproductive … so narcissistic … what about our country?”

The courts have heard the “evidence” of “fraud” and found it to be unfounded on several occasions. Continuing this circus is just … so harmful … so unproductive … so narcissistic … what about our country? https://t.co/QsA1hLJ2iq

So a new topic – China benefits from the NDAA? Seriously?? I can’t believe this claim as a reason to veto the bill, but lately @realDonaldTrump has put out some doozies. I will vote without hesitation to overwrite. https://t.co/7k4gtbUaxa

Mitchell was one of the few Republicans who paid his respects to Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

“I am deeply saddened by the death of Judge Ruth Bader Ginsburg,” he wrote on Facebook. “She was a dedicated lawyer who served our nation with honor. Her life and work on the Supreme Court have created a legacy that will inspire generations to come. I would like to thank her family at this time for their service and my heartfelt condolences. “

Prior to becoming a congressman, Mitchell was chairman of the Michigan branch of the Conservative Ralph Reed Faith and Freedom Coalition, a right-wing anti-LGBTQ organization that is part Christian evangelical and part tea party.

Mitchell, one of the richest members of Congress, is retiring in January, even noting that the move is “admittedly symbolic,” but said in his letter to RNC Chairman Ronna McDaniel, “We all know symbols matter . “
