U.S. Fee on Civil Rights Establishes New Advisory Committees in U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, and American Samoa and Seeks Nominations of Bipartisan Candidates | Information

WASHINGTON, May 12, 2021 / PRNewswire / – The US Civil Rights Commission has set up five new advisory committees across the EU US Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Northern Marianne Islands, Guam, and American Samoa.

In addition, the Commission seeks nominations for qualified and non-partisan candidates resident in these particular areas to consider appointment to the Special Government of these advisory committees.

The commission is currently accepting nominations and applications for each of the five US Territory advisory committees. The committees consist of 11 to 15 members and must be non-partisan with different points of view and experience. The Commission appoints the members of each committee by a majority vote of the commissioners of the Commission for a term of four years. The commission also appoints the chairman of each committee. Each committee will meet at least four times per calendar year, either face-to-face or virtually.

US Civil Rights Commission advisory committees provide the commission with independent advice and recommendations on civil rights issues within each committee’s geographical jurisdiction. These committees function as Federal Advisory Committees under the Federal Advisory Committee Act and the United States Commission on the Jurisdiction, Policies, and Procedures of Civil Rights for their advisory committees.
