Trump Has Left Behind a Republican Get together Virtually as ‘Poisonous’ as He Is: GOP Adviser
Donald Trump may no longer be president, according to a report by Politico, but the Republican Party he left behind has been damaged to the point where it has become almost as “toxic” as it is to, according to a former top aide of a Republican Senator voters.
As the report notes, high profile Republican Party members are still pushing Trump’s “big lie” that the 2020 election was stolen from him and have focused on proposing new policies that would enable them to win back the White House and both Chambers of Congress.
David Siders wrote for Politico: “Almost four months after the election and one month after Joe Biden’s presidency, the complaint policy has become the almost unique organizational principle of the post-Trump GOP. And whether at CPAC or in state houses across the country, policies to restore so-called voter integrity have emerged as the main focus of the party’s energy. “
This focus on preventing people from casting their vote might blow them up, but worse, it means they have no other message for voters than the fact that they are dwell on Trump’s loss.
Benjamin Ginsberg, a Conservative electoral lawyer, asked, “Tell me what the Republicans’ innovative policies have been lately?” before adding, it’s “likely a sign that the Republican Party has sunk into some sort of political wasteland and doesn’t know which way to turn to get out.”
According to former Attorney General Alberto Gonzales, who served in President George W. Bush’s administration, there is no evidence of widespread electoral fraud and Republicans honking at it are “a major distraction. And I worry that as long as a certain person makes statements about their being stolen, it will continue to be a major distraction. “
Former Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) adviser Kevin Madden was a little more blunted in his assessment.
“It’s a party made in the shape of Trump – Trump’s message, Trump’s tactics – and it’s perfectly comfortable to be a party defined by what it’s against,” he explained before adding : “… They become almost toxic as a party brand for larger, growing segments of the electorate. … The limitation of an embassy and platform that is only about disagreeing with the opposition is that it does not address the broader concerns or addresses the fears of a large part of the electorate. “
