Trump Calls for McConnell and McCarthy Oppose Jan. 6 Fee. They Are Dutifully Complying.

Donald TrumpThe former president blogged the two leading Republicans in Congress on Tuesday evening to end the “discussions” in order to set up a commission to investigate the January 6 uprising and the coup attempt he instigated.

You stick to it.

Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) Tuesday afternoon had expressed “surprising” openness to a January 6 commission, multiple news sources reported, but on Tuesday evening the Senate minority leader told reporters he was pressing “the pause button.”

Kevin McCarthy, House Republican Minority Chairman has been against the commission since early Tuesday, some say because of its possible involvement in preparing for the deadly unrest that day.

On Wednesday the House will vote on a bipartisan bill to form the commission, which includes McCarthy’s demands made when he supported the commission before speaking out against it. The bill is expected to be passed and has at least 17 Republicans’ backing. House minority whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) had told members they could choose their conscience, but on Tuesday after McCarthy expressed his strong opposition, Scalise “whipped” the vote, instructing members to vote against the commission .

Trump called the commission “just partisan injustice” and said, “If the murders, riots and incendiary bombs in Portland, Minneapolis, Seattle, Chicago and New York are not also investigated, this discussion should end immediately.”
