Spokane Metropolis Council President declares medical go away to finish most cancers therapy | Information
SPOKANE, Wash. – Breean Beggs, president of Spokane City Council, announced Monday that he will be on medical leave in August and September to complete chemotherapy after removing a cancerous tumor last month.
Beggs said he had surgery in June and is now on radiation therapy to clear any remaining cancer cells.
“This June I joined millions of Americans diagnosed with cancer and I’m now in the hands of a great medical team and we’re getting rid of it,” Beggs said during Monday’s city council meeting.
Beggs said councilor Candace Mum will temporarily chair the meetings, but he will continue to attend if possible.
“You and our dedicated staff will keep me informed, and I will continue to focus on my top priorities for the city throughout my treatment,” said Beggs. “I appreciate your thoughts and support during this time. Know that I am surrounded by great family and friends.
