One Savannah Street was renamed on Sunday in honor of the longest serving docker in the United States. The street in front of the 1414 International Longshoremen’s Association is now named after Chester Dunham, a labor, civil rights and social justice attorney who has been with ILA 1414 for 58 years. Toni Dunham, the late Chester Dunham’s wife, said: “When young men come to ILA 1414 to look for work, they look up there and stop in front of that building and see Chester Dunham Drive. Chester Dunham was a man, one divine man, a man who loved and cared for him. He would do anything to correct the injustice that had been done to the people. “Dunham was also the President of the Savannah Chapter of the A. Philip Randolph Institute, which advocates social, labor law and economic changes. He also hosted the Dunham Report, a program that educated people on civil rights and labor issues.
