‘Please, Simply Reply It!’ ABC Host Catches Steve Scalise Shamelessly Deflecting on Trump’s Function in Assault
House Minority Whip’s Steve Scalise (R-LA) declined on Sunday to admit President Joe Biden didn’t steal the election from former President Donald Trump. And he also refused to say Trump was responsible for the January 6 uprising.
In an interview with Scalise on Sunday, ABC host Jonathan Karl noted that the Republican leader had recently met with Trump in Mar-a-Lago.
“Did you ask him to take responsibility? [for the insurrection]? “Asked Karl.” Has he taken responsibility?
Scalise avoided the question, however.
“It was more of a conversation about how he’s doing now and what he’s up to and what his family is doing,” the Republican legislature said.
“But wait a minute,” said Karl. “He took no responsibility. You heard Kevin McCarthy say it. I mean, do you agree with what Kevin McCarthy said there? That the president has to take responsibility? That the facts demand that he take responsibility for what happened on January 6th? “
“Sure there’s a lot of guilt to going around,” Scalise ducked. “But at the end of the day, the people who stormed the Capitol on January 6th, it was a shame and they must be held accountable.”
“That’s obvious,” interrupted Karl. “I ask about Donald Trump’s role in it.”
The ABC host pressed against Scalise whether he would acknowledge Trump’s role in the attack.
“It seems like they’ve only tried to indict him since he took office,” Scalise replied. “But if you look at this trial, they put out a clip of pretty much every US Senator who voted to indict President Trump, who talked about things like ‘go and fight like hell’ and other things like this . “
“So you’re saying he’s not responsible,” concluded Karl.
“President Trump denounced what happened,” said Scalise. “Not just on January 6th, but in the summer when they burned cities, shot police officers and beat people on the street.”
Before finishing the interview, Karl asked Scalise if he could clearly state that Biden had won the 2020 presidential election fairly and legitimately.
“The election wasn’t stolen, right?” Said Karl.
But Scalise declined to make a clear statement.
“There were some states that did not obey their state laws,” he noted. “This is really the argument that you saw on.”
“But, Congressman,” Karl tried again. “I know Joe Biden is the president. He lives in the White House. I asked you if he is the legitimate President of the United States and do you admit that this election was not stolen? Very simple question. Please just answer. “
“Once the voters are counted, yes,” Scalise admitted. “He’s the legitimate president. But if you want to ignore the fact that there were states that did not obey their own statutory laws, this is the core problem that millions of people are still unsatisfied with. “
