NC Civil Rights leaders to announce subsequent steps in demand for justice for Andrew Brown Jr.

ELIZABETH CITY, NC (WAVY) – The North Carolina NAACP leaders and Elizabeth City leaders gather today to share their next steps to bring justice to Andrew Brown Jr., exactly one month after being told by law enforcement officers from Pasquotank was shot.

The group leading the delegation includes Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II, President and Lecturer, Repairers of the Breach; Rev. Dr. T. Anthony Spearman, president of the NAACP’s North Carolina Conference; and Keith Rivers, president of the Pasquotank County NAACP.

Leaders are expected to announce that an amended letter will be sent to the U.S. Department of Justice calling for an independent federal civil rights investigation into Brown’s death to be expedited and an immediate investigation by the Sheriff’s Department to be expedited and the District Attorney’s office.

The group will also announce plans to bring a delegation to Washington, DC, to deliver the letter to US Attorney General Merrick Garland.

The press conference will take place at 1:00 p.m. in front of the Pasquotank Public Safety Office at 200 E. Colonial Ave. held in Elizabeth City
