Native companies anticipating extra staff as unemployment compensation ends – FOX13 Information Memphis

Memphis, Tennessee – End of all federally funded pandemic unemployment compensation programs goes into effect today.

This was signed by Governor Bill Lee in May.

While some people may not like this news, it could be positive for local business owners who told FOX13 that they are having trouble finding people to work.

FOX13 spoke to Wayne Tabor of the Memphis Hotel and Lodging Association. He says ending the pandemic unemployment programs could bring more workers.

Tabor says hotels in Memphis cannot meet the requirements for now because the restrictions are now gone.

He says he expects that to change slowly but surely

“With these benefits running out, I don’t think it will be a quick situation for people to be looking for a job on Tuesday mornings after the vacation, but I think if they start thinking about an income then the job market will be fine hopefully open a lot, ”he said.

Tabor expects a turnaround in the labor market well into autumn, around October and November.
