Jersey Metropolis Pupil Information Civil Rights Lawsuit After Racist Rant

JERSEY CITY, NJ – The Dickinson High School student, who was the focus of a teacher’s vulgar and racial swearwords, has a state civil rights lawsuit on her behalf against the Jersey City Board of Education, Dickinson High School officials and teacher Howard Zlotkin submitted.

Howard Zlotkin was teaching a high school class on April 28 when a discussion on climate change turned into his views on Black Lives Matter and George Floyd – the swear words were peppered with swear words aimed at students.

“I hear people whining and crying about Black Live’s Matter, but George Floyd was a fucking criminal and he was arrested and killed for failing to do it, and the end result is we got him an F- – –g hero, “says Zlotkin in a recording.

The student in the lawsuit is only named when TW Zlotkin asked TW and three other students to write an essay explaining why black lives should be important to anyone who is due the next day. When she refused, Zlotkin cursed her.

Patch reached out to the Jersey City Board of Education and Superintendent Franklin Walker and heard nothing.

According to the lawsuit, months earlier, in December 2020, TW had sent a video of Zlotkin curing in class to the headmaster Gekson Casillas, who is also named in the lawsuit. TW asked the headmaster for help and Casillas told her that he would address the situation according to the lawsuit.

TW claims in the lawsuit that Zlotkin was back in class the next day and cursed the student who “betrayed” him. TW and her mother turned to several school officials and even the Education Committee after class on April 28, but according to the lawsuit, no one from the school took any steps to protect students from zlotkin.

TW’s federal lawsuit alleges that the Education Committee and school officials violated Title VI of the Civil Rights Act and state anti-discrimination laws by allowing Zlotkin to racially harass his students. TW is also suing Zlotkin directly for discrimination.

“It is outrageous that even after TW repeatedly contacted school officials about Zlotkin’s abuse, no one bothered to contact her until it was too late and she was exposed to yet another class of racial hatred,” TWs said Lawyer Ali Frick. “Even more outrageous is that the school knew very well that Zlotkin was completely unsuitable for teaching and yet did nothing to protect the students from him.”
