In order to provide the injured workers with the best medical care as quickly as possible, the ICW Group Insurance Companies, a leading group of property and casualty insurance companies, has announced the Nurse Triage Hotline for its workers accident policyholders.
Injured workers can use the Nurse Triage Hotline to ensure they are receiving the most appropriate primary medical care for their workplace injuries. In some cases, this means avoiding unnecessary and costly over-treatment, saving companies costs and reducing lost time due to work-related accidents.
The Nurse Triage Hotline provides instant, 24/7 access to English and Spanish speaking nurses who specialize in treating non-emergency injuries in the workplace. Nurses use clinical guidelines to assess injuries and make recommendations about the type of medical care the employee will need.
“When an injury occurs in the workplace, the first response is critical to ensuring that an employee’s injury is properly treated,” said Amanda Granger, senior vice president, Work Comp Claims. “Not only does this initial assessment provide immediate care and treatment advice to employees, it also offers the employer cost savings by reducing unnecessary emergency room costs and preventing minor injuries from turning into major damage.”
In addition to looking after the injured employee, the initial application process is also streamlined – which saves the employer time. Within 15 minutes of an injured employee calling the Nurse Triage Hotline, policyholders receive a detailed summary of the injured employee’s visit and a claim is opened via the ICW Group’s first claim reporting team.
“Our policyholders get an instant work accident assessment and the information they need to be sure their employees are getting the best care,” said Granger. “The injured worker also has access to a trained nurse who can make quick nursing decisions to begin recovery immediately.”
The Nurse Triage Hotline provides security for employees who feel anxious or unsafe after an injury. It also relieves the supervisor of having to make potentially life-changing medical decisions.
The Nurse Triage Hotline also helps minimize lost work time by giving an injured employee clear instructions on how to proceed to avoid further injuries and complications.
“At a time when companies are struggling to fill vacancies, even an employee who is unemployed due to injury can put a huge strain on a company,” said Granger.
Additionally, the Nurse Triage Hotline provides the ability to easily share pictures of cuts and burns so a nurse can determine if a doctor visit is needed or if the injury can be self-treated. This service is particularly useful for restaurant policyholders who experience these types of injuries. Workers who recommend self-care will receive a follow-up call from a hotline nurse.
Policyholders who would like to find out more about the Nurse Triage Hotline can visit the ICW Group’s Policeholder Center. In addition, a special website has been set up exclusively for airline policyholders, where they can order flyers, stickers, wallet cards and posters free of charge and inform their employees about the service.
