A federal grand jury has indicted four former Minneapolis police officers on civil rights in connection with the murder of George Floyd.

MINNESOTA – A federal grand jury has indicted four former Minneapolis police officers on civil rights in connection with the murder of George Floyd.
The new indictments, unsealed Friday morning, allege Derek Chauvin, J. Alexander Kueng, Thomas Lane and Tou Thao used their police positions to deprive Floyd of his constitutional rights when Chauvin detained him on May 25, when he asked to breathe while the other three did not intervene.
The federal indictment comes after an 11-month Justice Department investigation that ran parallel to the state indictments and more than two weeks after a jury found chauvin guilty of two murders and one manslaughter. The other three former officers are due to be tried in August.
The federal indictment comes on top of the state cases, which means all four could stand before a new federal court.
Eric Nelson, Chauvin’s state attorney, declined to comment. Comments were left for the lawyers representing the other three former officials in the State Court
