NEWARK, NJ, U.S., Dec. 30, 2020 /EINPresswire.com/ – Civil rights and business leader Michael “President” Anderson releases hip-hop racial justice visual “Cross” with widespread support

The New Jersey-based hip-hop artist president launched a historic campaign in Newark, New Jersey today with the release of Cross. “Cross” was founded to raise awareness of BlackOut Movements, a coalition focused on creating solutions to racial justice for public, private and philanthropic institutions. Various initiatives include # BlackOutNewark # BlackOutWholeFoods and # BlackDadsMatter campaigns.

“Cross” was first posted on Youtube at 12 noon EST. The video begins with a reference to a now infamous incident on October 3, 2020 in which the prominent member of the Newark community was wrongly arrested for shoplifting at Whole Foods Newark. Today’s launch coincides with #BlackOutWholeFoods ‘announcement that civil rights, faith groups, activists and a leading retail workers’ union are partnering in 2021 to call for governments and businesses to crack down on institutional racism. The Retail Wholesale Department Store Union (RWSDU) has joined the # BlackOutWholeFoods coalition.

In late October 2020, Rev. Bartley, regional director of NAN NE, convened a meeting with Newark, New Jersey Mayor Ras Baraka, Newark City Council spokesman, Mildred Crump, and #BlackOutNewark to resolve the president’s discrimination incident at the Whole site Foods Newark, New Jersey. In this incident, the President was wrongly profiled, attacked and imprisoned after being charged with shoplifting in the store. The allegations of shoplifting were later proven to be false. A Whole Foods spokesman has since admitted that the search and detention had been against company protocol. Upon further review, similar cases of consumer and employee discrimination by paint were found at Whole Foods Markets in Boston, Oakland, Charlotte, Connecticut and Philadelphia.

In response to the October 3, 2020 Whole Foods Newark incident and other cases, the Reverend Sharpton’s National Action Network (NAN) partnered with #BlackOutNewark and recently sent a formal letter to Whole Foods CEO John Mackey requesting it a meeting to discuss systematic racial strategies to prevent similar behavior in the future. NAN argued that the abuse of consumers and workers violated basic standards of justice and equated to discrimination.

“The BlackOut Movements coalition came in response to several incidents where I realized that many see my race as a limiting factor. Almost every day I am forced to deal with the police who are used to threaten me in my own home and community simply because society has been trained to view black men as a threat. The start was postponed today because the state of New Jersey sent the NJ State Police to my home because they interpreted the message of this music as potentially “dangerous”. I’ve teamed up with #BlackOutNewark #BlackDadsMatter and with NAN and RWDSU for #BlackOutWholeFoods to involve and disenfranchise as many as possible to carry the cross of racial justice. We hope that “Cross” will encourage the hip-hop community to use culture and our capital to transform our communities. We need companies that rule over communities to do their part to create justice and the public sector to end systemic racism in all facets of life. ”

President’s “Cross” is available wherever music is sold. “Cross” is the first image released from President’s Billions In My 30s Album / Movement. NAN and RWDSU are expected to officially announce the #BlackOutWholeFoods partnership early next week.
