Christian Fears Trump Years Have Completely Scarred Evangelicals
A conservative Christian wrote a lengthy editorial for the Christian Post in which he fears that his fellow evangelicals have become too hateful to be effective ambassadors for God’s Word.
Michael Brown, a longtime charismatic Christian resuscitator, argues that the fanatical devotion of some Christians to former President Donald Trump shows that many people within the conservative Christian movement have been “terribly disfigured” by partisan politics.
“Did that infect us?” He asks, “Have we become so preoccupied with partisan politics that our Christian identity is now fully entwined with a carnal, angry, divisive and accusatory spirit – the spirit of secular politics?”
Brown also addresses the recent feuds that have broken out among some pro-Trump “prophets” who claim that God will soon reinstate the former president in the White House.
“When my younger colleague Jeremiah Johnson publicly apologized for wrongly prophesying Trump’s re-election, he received a stream of hate mail of the lowest sort, almost all from professing Christians,” he writes. “Is this the fruit of the Spirit? Is this the result of our fellowship with God? What happens when we transform into the figure of Jesus? Obviously not.”
