CFO Jimmy Patronis announces arrest under Miami Workers’ Compensation Insurance’s premium fraud program for $ 718,000

MIAMI – Chief Financial Officer (CFO) Jimmy Patronis announced today the arrest of Damart Oshain Burnett, owner of Damart Builders Corporation, for allegedly withholding payroll information in order to pay more than $ 718,000 in employee compensation to avoid.

An investigation by the Investigative and Forensic Services Division (DIFS) of CFO Patronis, Bureau of Workers Compensation Fraud, found that Damart Builders Corporation owner Damart Burnett was losing millions of dollars in labor instead of the $ 223,600 originally reported by Damart. Dollar collected on receipt of the policy from NorGuard Insurance Company. Had the payroll been properly reported, Damart Builders Corporation would have received an employee compensation award of more than $ 745,800. To date, NorGuard Insurance has only accumulated premiums of around $ 27,700. Damart Builders Corporation effectively avoided more than $ 718,000 in employee compensation awards based on alleged fraudulent actions of the owners.

Damart Burnett was arrested and admitted to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in Miami-Dade County on May 18, 2021. He is charged with employee compensation fraud, organized fraud program and conspiracy for theft. If convicted, he faces up to 25 years in prison. Individuals charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
