BSO employee accused of mendacity about fall to obtain staff’ compensation
BROWARD COUNTY, Fla. – A senior communications officer from the Broward Sheriff’s Office was arrested Wednesday for compensation fraud and official misconduct, authorities confirmed.
BSO spokesman Carey Codd wrote in a press release that 45-year-old BSO regional communications officer Jennifer Blum, 45, “told her managers that she was at Central Communications in the early hours of August 13, 2020 Center suffered a fall from BSO. “
Codd said Blum signed forms confirming the claims and BSO ended up paying more than $ 1,300 for their medical bills.
However, Codd said surveillance videos and other evidence proved Blum did not fall off while at work and lied about the incident.
Detectives arrested Blum in the agency’s public security building on Wednesday evening.
“It is disappointing that we have to announce the arrest of one of our employees, but I have made a commitment to the residents of Broward that BSO will be a transparency and accountability agency,” Sheriff Gregory Tony said in a statement. “If employees break the law, my administration will have the moral courage to monitor our own. We will approach the termination procedure. “

Blum, who has been with BSO since January 2000, is currently suspended without pay.
