P.rominent black civil rights activists, politicians, and activists unloaded on Democratic Senator Joe Manchin after the West Virginia politician doubled his decision to vote against the For the People Act, a comprehensive piece of legislation to keep the progress of increasingly Republican supporters going to thwart voter suppression law across the country.

Manchin’s stance makes him the only Democratic senator to oppose the bill.

“I believe that a partisan electoral law will destroy the already weakening ties of our democracy, and that is why I will be voting against the For the People Act. Also, I’m not going to vote to weaken or eliminate the filibuster, ”Manchin wrote in a comment published in the Charleston Gazette.

Manchin has also pledged to stand with the Republicans by speaking out against the eradication of the filibuster, a key focus of Democrats in Congress seeking to drive progressive legislation.

On Monday, The Atlantic Contributor Jemele Hill tweeted that Manchin was defending white supremacy by sideizing with Republicans on one of the most pressing issues of the last century.

“This is a hallmark of this country,” Hill tweeted in response to an Associated Press article confirming Manchin’s position. “A record number of black voters are showing up to save this democracy just to keep white supremacy from a cowardly power-hungry white guy. @Sen_JoeMacnhin is a clown. “

And newly elected Senator Mondaire Jones rightly unleashed Manchin during an interview with MSNBC.

“He shouldn’t want to be known as the senator who blocked the right to vote and undermined American democracy.”

New York representative Jamal Bowen went even further.

“Joe Manchin is the new Mitch McConnell. Mitch McConnell said during the Obama presidency he would do everything in his power to stop (then President Barack Obama), “Bowman told CNN. “He repeated this during the Biden presidency, saying he would do everything in his power to stop President Biden and now Joe Manchin is doing everything in his power to stop democracy and our work for the people to stop the work that the people sent us here to do something. “

Manchin is expected to meet with NAACP leaders on Tuesday, which will include attendees Al Sharpton, Sherrilyn Ifill, president and direct advisor to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, and Marc Moria, president of the Urban League.

It is more clear than ever that individuals with large platforms will use their positions to petition the Senator that somehow missed the importance of protecting voting rights, as Republicans have enacted voter suppression laws in at least 14 states.
