RNC Lawyer Makes Beautiful Admission to Supreme Court docket Justices That GOP Wants Voter Suppression Legal guidelines to Win

On Tuesday, a Republican National Committee attorney admitted to the US Supreme Court that GOP candidates need voter suppression laws, especially those targeting minority voters, in order to win.

The Supreme Court heard arguments related to the historic 1965 Suffrage Act, which was deemed almost useless by Chief Justice John Roberts in 2013 when he infamously proclaimed, “Our country has changed.” The Guardian and HuffPost have written that it suggested that racism is all but over.

It is not.

Tuesday’s arguments discussed the landmark Voting Rights Act and “an Arizona law that disqualifies casting ballots in the wrong district,” Mother Jones reported.

The Brennan Center, as reported by the Washington Post on today’s Supreme Court hearing notes, is tracking over 250 bills that are pushing Republicans in more than half of the states across the country to tackle “election fraud,” lies Donald Trump and his supporters have been putting pressure on for almost a year, turning it into “legal” voter repression.

The Supreme Court has changed dramatically in the nearly eight years since it pointed out that racism is no longer a big deal – and not for the better.

But it was the newest member of the court, and one of the most right-wing, to ask an illuminating question so far.

“What is the interest of the Arizona RNC here, such as following the rules for disqualifying ballot papers outside of the constituency in the books?”

This law forces the state to discard ballot papers if they are cast in the wrong district.

The question was asked by Judge Amy Coney Barrett.

The answer baffled many.

“Because it puts us at a competitive disadvantage compared to the Democrats,” replied attorney Michael Carvin, as Mother Jones reports. “Politics is a zero-sum game,” he added.

“It’s the difference between winning a vote between 50 and 49 and -” he went on, but Justice Barrett didn’t even let him finish his sentence, perhaps for fear of what else he would say.

“The Republicans ‘intentions couldn’t be clearer,” Mother Jones’ Abigail Weinberg wrote. “It’s not about reducing fraud. It’s about preventing minorities from voting for Democrats. “
