Are Healthcare Workers More Prone To COVID-19?
A recent study of nearly 25,000 of them who were exposed to COVID-19 appears to refute the notion that the workplace is the likely location of transmission.
The study, published in March in the Journal of the American Medical Association, concluded that “outside of the workplace exposure was the top risk factor” for healthcare workers, especially those living in a zip code with higher COVID-19 incidence, and that “none” of the workplace factors assessed were associated with a contraction of COVID-19.
The study suggested “that current health care infection prevention strategies are effective in preventing patient-to-(health workers) transmission in the workplace.”
Meanwhile, claims for compensation from healthcare workers and first responders with COVID-19 made up the lion’s share of damage activity.
The National Council on Compensation Insurance, based in Boca Raton, Fla., Reported in June that nursing and convalescent homes, other health care workers and first responders combined 72% of all of the rating agency’s since the pandemic began.
