Attorney General Merrick Garland announced a civil rights trial against Georgia over the state’s recent voting laws during a news conference on Friday.

Georgia isn’t the only state to have passed more restrictive laws since the 2020 presidential election. By mid-May, 22 restrictive laws had been enacted in at least 14 states, according to the Brennan Center for Justice, which researches polls and supports expanded access.
