US civil rights chief assures assist to Tamil Nadu
Washington, DC [US]May 23 (ANI): American civil rights activist Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. spoke to Tamil Nadu Treasury Secretary Palanivel Thiaga Rajan (PTR) in a Zoom appeal on May 21, assuring support for COVID-19 in the fight of the state on the way is the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to a press release, PTR has asked Jackson Sr. to urge US President Joe Biden to rapidly release an allocation of Astra Zeneca vaccines for India out of the 80 million vaccines the US has offered to donate overseas.
PTR conveyed to Jackson the gratitude of the people of Tamil Nadu and Chief Minister MK Stalin for their efforts to assist India, including the state of Tamil Nadu, during this pandemic. The minister also stressed that Covid-19 vaccines are needed immediately for Tamil Nadu’s 80 million residents, as the state has recorded over 18 lakh cases as of Saturday.
Jesse Jackson also relayed a personal message to Tamil Nadu CM: “Chief Minister Stalin, you are the man! Help is coming. Chief Minister Stalin, help is on the way. Dawn is coming. We will win this fight! We We will win this disease! We will defeat this disease. Keep hope alive! Thank God bless you. ”On Wednesday, Jesse Jackson Sr. urged President Joe Biden to give at least 60 million doses of vaccine to India out of the 80 million announced earlier by the US President. Jackson was also joined by Congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi, who made a moral appeal, and the duo assured that help was on the way.
A total of 2,57,299 new COVID-19 infections and 4,194 deaths have been reported in the country in the past 24 hours, the Union’s Ministry of Health said on Saturday. The cumulative number of cases in India is now 2,62,89,290. (ANI)
