Three Home Democrats Contract COVID After Being in Lockdown Blast Masks-Refusing Republicans
“A superspreader event in addition to a domestic terrorist attack”
During last week’s uprising that forced members of Congress to hide in tight spaces, some even crouched to hide from President Donald Trump’s insurgents, Republican lawmakers were asked to wear masks but refused from.
Now three Democrats have tested positive for COVID-19, with the third announcing its diagnosis minutes ago.
“I am now in strict isolation, concerned that I have risked my wife’s health and angry at the selfishness and arrogance of the anti-maskers,” says Rep. Brad Schneider (D-IL).
Overnight Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-WA) tested positive. Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-NJ) also tested positive on Monday.
All three were in contact with GOP legislators.
“We can no longer tolerate members falling to the ground,” added Rep. Schneider in a statement, “without doing what is absolutely necessary to protect those around them.” Those who violate public health guidelines should be sanctioned by the Sergeant at Arms and removed from the floor of the house immediately. “
As of this week, 40 Republicans and 13 Democrats in the House and Senate had tested positive for COVID-19. The count is now 16 and 40.
“Too many Republicans have refused to take this pandemic and virus seriously, putting everyone around them at risk,” Jayapal said in a statement, NBC News reported. “Just hours after President Trump instigated a deadly attack on our Capitol, our country and our democracy, many Republicans still refused to take the minimum COVID-19 precaution and simply put a damn mask in an overcrowded one during a pandemic Space to carry a superspreader event in addition to a domestic terrorist attack. “
“This is not a joke,” she added. “Our lives and livelihoods are at risk, and anyone who refuses to wear a mask should be fully held responsible for putting our lives at risk because of their selfish idiocy.”
