There Will Be No Presidential Fee on the January 6 Revolt
President of the Republican Party Ronna McDaniel Wednesday night posted a tweet wishing the LGBTQ community “Happy #PrideMonth”.
It didn’t go down well.
Happy #PrideMonth! @GOP is proud to have doubled our LGBTQ support over the past 4 years.
– Ronna McDaniel (@GOPChairwoman) June 2, 2021
The GOP has been at war with the LGBTQ community at every turn and has stepped up its attacks significantly this year.
“2021 has officially surpassed 2015 as the worst year for anti-LGBTQ laws in recent history,” the human rights campaign reported in early May.
In 2021, more than 250 anti-LGBTQ laws were introduced into state legislatures, including:
At least 35 bills that would ban transgender youth from access to proven, age-appropriate, gender-specific health care
At least 69 bills that would prohibit transgender youth (and in some cases college students) from engaging in sports that match their gender identity
At least 43 bills that would allow people to invoke a religious belief as a justification for failing to abide by the law or providing services to people who disapprove of them
At least 15 bills that would prohibit transgender people from accessing toilets or locker rooms consistent with their gender identity
On May 4th, a month ago, 17 of these bills had already been signed – more than in the last three years combined.
There are more.
For example, Florida GOP Governor Ron DeSantis celebrated the start of Pride Month by signing an anti-transgender law on June 1 banning transgender girls from participating in women’s sports, and he chose a private Christian school – that doesn’t need a law banning sports for trans -Girls – as a place to sign the law and send a very strong message about whom it is trying to please.
DeSantis, a top Trump supporter believed to be a presidential candidate in 2024, vetoed LGBTQ legislation on June 2.
“Just days after the five-year memory of the Pulse nightclub massacre in Orlando,” reports The Orlando Sentinel, “DeSantis vetoed $ 150,000 in government funds on Wednesday that would have offered counseling to survivors – despite a budget with Reserves of $ 9.5 billion. And in what advocates refer to as the “war” against LGBTQ + Floridians, the governor also abolished $ 750,000 approved by the Florida Legislature for the Orlando-based Zebra Coalition to provide housing for the homeless and gay transgender youth. “
McDaniel’s tweet makes it clear that the GOP is only interested in even claiming support for LGBTQ safeguards as long as the “rights” of conservative Christians are not affected. The hundreds of bills removing this protection and imposing even worse restrictions on LGBTQ people, especially minors, expose their tweet as a lie, but it’s revealing to know that the Republican Party is poised to give LGBTQ American civil rights precedence to give religious justice.
This is how some react to the GOP chairman’s tweet.

The first thing the Trump administration did was literally delete all LGBTQ content from all federal websites.

“We at @GOP will balance protection for LGBTQ Americans and those who want to discriminate against them, as we did in Germany in 1939.”
– Frank Wells (@FrankTracy) June 2, 2021
The GOP leader says her party will “balance protection for LGBTQ Americans and those with deeply rooted religious beliefs.”
Don’t you know that many LGBTQ Americans have deeply religious beliefs? https://t.co/S7eFGPTh4o

Is this now the Justice and Inclusion Party on Diversity? I’m going to need a better class of pettlers than this one.

Curious: is the “protection” the wave of anti-trans legislation by Republican lawmakers? Mike Pence and his ilk’s preference for conversion therapy? The lack of funds for health and stability support for LGTBQIA + adolescents? The attacks on the trans military?

Keep the words “Happy Pride” out of your mouth.
You haven’t done anything this year to stop the wave of anti-trans legislation.
They did nothing during his ONLY term in office to stop Trump’s anti-LGBTQ actions.
I’ll see you, Ronna.

Like forcing young children to be traumatized by a forced “genital exam” to play youth sports because some crazy people think they don’t look “right” ?! @GOPChaarfrau? https://t.co/nSaD8gWud0 pic.twitter.com/IcL046JNao

Gosh, the cognitive dissonance is staggering. Day 1 of Pride Month, DeSantis signed a law taking away rights … but cool
