Ted Cruz ‘Seems to Have Left Behind the Household Poodle’ Texas Reporter Reveals After Driving to His Home

Has Senator Ted Cruz Escaped the Texas disaster with his wife and two young children by flying to Cancun and leaving the family dog behind?

Cruz returned to Texas tonight after a reporter announced shortly after midnight Thursday morning that the Texas Senator was in Mexico while millions of his constituents were literally doing their best not to freeze to death.

“I just passed Ted Cruz’s house in Houston. Its lights are off, but a neighbor told me that the block had power back last night. Plus, Ted seems to have left the family poodle, ”wrote Michael Hardy, author of Texas Monthly, on Twitter.

To be clear, Cruz told reporters, “We had no heat or electricity.”

Hardy also wrote his experiences for a story in New York Magazine. It turns out that a security guard parked in the driveway says he looked after the family’s pet.

“Given Cruz’s address from a knowledgeable friend, I drove fifteen minutes from my Houston apartment to the lush River Oaks neighborhood where Cruz lives,” writes Hardy.

“From the street, Cruz’s white colonial mansion looked dark and uninhabited. A neighbor informed me that the block actually lost power before finally getting it back late Wednesday evening. A look at the lit lanterns flanking the doors of other houses on the block confirmed this. The Senator’s story seemed to be changing. But then I heard barking and noticed a small white dog peeking out of the lower right pane of glass in the Senator’s front door. Had Cruz left his dog behind? “

As I approached the knock, a man stepped out of the suburb parked in Cruz’s driveway. “Is that Senator Cruz’s house?” I asked. He said Cruz was not home and identified himself as a security guard. When asked who was looking after the dog, the security guard volunteered. Reassured by the dog’s welfare, I returned to my car. Before I left, however, I took a picture of the house from my car window, being careful not to give the house address.

Hardy also tweeted:

The poodle’s name seems to be Snowflake. This is what it probably felt like to be left with no heat in sub-zero temperatures
