Steve Mnuchin on Stimulus Checks: ‘Direct Deposit Funds Could Arrive As Early As Tonight’

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin released a statement Tuesday afternoon on the status of the stimulus checks, stating that they could be delivered electronically this evening.

“Today, Treasury and Internal Revenue Service will deliver a second round of economic impact payments to millions of Americans as part of the implementation of the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021,” the statement began. “The first direct deposit payments may arrive this evening for some and will continue until next week.”

The statement goes on to say: “Starting tomorrow, Wednesday, December 30th, paper checks will be sent. This second round of payments offers crucial economic support to those who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic through no fault of their own. ”

“The Treasury and the IRS are working at an unprecedented rate to direct a second round of economic impact payments to eligible Americans and their families,” said Mnuchin. “These payments are an integral part of our commitment to provide important additional economic relief for the American people at this unprecedented time.”

According to the statement, Eligible Individuals will receive an economic impact payment of up to $ 600 for an individual or $ 1200 for a married couple and up to $ 600 for each Eligible Child. In general, if you’ve adjusted gross income for 2019 by up to $ 75,000 for individuals and up to $ 150,000 for married couples filing joint returns and being surviving spouses, you will generally receive the full amount of the second payment. For filers with an income above these amounts, the payment amount will be reduced.
