Sonia Sotomayor Rips Brett Kavanaugh With Warning New Justices Are ‘Prepared to Overrule Precedent’

A high school soccer team captain assigned to play the college ball and a high school basketball player are two of the three people who were shot dead in a shooting in Austin, Texas on Sunday. Austin was one of five big shoots that weekend. Columbus, Ohio, LaPlace and Shreveport, Louisiana, and Kenosha, Wisconsin, had mass shootings over the weekend after a horrific mass shooting at a FedEx warehouse in Indianapolis, Indiana, which left eight dead and seven wounded.

In Austin, the suspect is “a retired Travis County Sheriff’s Office detective charged with sexually assaulting a child,” reports CNN.

Five mourners, including a 12-year-old child, were shot dead during a vigil in Columbus, Ohio, commemorating the murder of a man a year earlier. A woman driving past the scene was shot in the head. She died.

Also on Sunday, a gunman from Kenosha, Wisconsin, killed three people and injured three others. A “person of interest” was arrested and charged with first degree first degree murder.

Six people, all children, were shot dead at a 12-year-old’s birthday party on Saturday night in LaPlace, Louisiana. None of the injuries were fatal. The alleged shooter was also a child. And in Shreveport, Louisiana, five people were shot dead and hospitalized late Sunday.

The Gun Violence Archive doesn’t even count the Austin, Texas murders as a “mass shooting,” as it only includes events in which at least four people were shot. It also doesn’t list the Ft. Worth, Texas 3-year-old who shot himself to death in a local park Sunday afternoon or the fatal shooting of an 11-year-old boy by a 9-year-old boy in a Dallas Walmart parking lot this past weekend.

The five major shootings this weekend are part of the gun violence over the weekend. An average of 316 people are shot each day, including 106 who are shot.

Sunday was the 108th day of the year. The armed violence archive lists 152 mass shootings up to Sunday.

On social media, Americans are angry at the gun violence explosion just as some feel that the coronavirus pandemic is slowly approaching the appearance of being controlled as more and more people are being vaccinated. (There were an additional 43,181 new cases on Sunday, a dramatic decrease from the 81,600 on Friday and the 63,627 on Saturday.)

Others point out that the Texas House passed laws this week ending the gun license requirement and allowing unlicensed open or concealed carry to be legal.

Not even an excuse that the government will do something to prevent mass shootings

Ah yes. Vaccination and reopening so we can go back to mass shootings.

I ask Congress if a law can be passed to hold Republicans accountable for mass shootings for preventing Congress from passing gun safety laws in the first place. @ RepSwalwell, @tedlieu, @AOC @IlhanMN @amyklobuchar @SenSanders @ SenGillibrand @ewarren

Good Mr. Congress, try something! Universal background checks, banning offensive weapons, preventing child access. Something! To do nothing is a failure of leadership and democracy. https://t.co/VrTBezK3r6

Any member of Congress like Greene who denies the reality of Sandy Hook should be expelled immediately

And let me be very clear:

We have mass shootings every godforsaken day because of one party and one party: the Republicans

50 mass shootings in a month … as a responsible gun owner and as someone who grew up shooting guns, Congress, please do something. My second right of amendment is not threatened by red flag laws, expanded background checks, or bans on assault rifles. Do something. Save lives. You’re welcome.

So America is besieged by shootings and Republicans are trying to make it easier to get a gun?

– Molly Jong-Fast? (@MollyJongFast) April 16, 2021

This is the craziest series of mass shootings I can remember. Our country is completely broken. Politicians (mostly Republicans) and bastards refuse to do anything https://t.co/upUdyr7RBC

Reported at least 4 shootings in Texas on the news tonight. A toddler was shot in north Texas, college students shot each other, I forgot another, and then the gunfight in Austin. And Republicans want to make it easier for people to do this. ??

How long must we be inundated with news of more mass shootings than any of us can keep up – before Republicans acknowledge the reality that America is in the midst of an epidemic of gun violence that is absolutely out of control?

Will enough ever be enough? #EndGunViolence

Imagine if the Republicans took mass shootings as seriously as they took infinite access to If I Ran the Zoo.

– Schooley (@Rschooley) April 16, 2021

The US has seen at least 45 mass shootings in a month.

This is an American problem.

90% of Americans support gun security reform.

We passed a bill last month and yet the Senate Republicans are refusing to endorse it. They are voting AGAINST their own voters. pic.twitter.com/1h8CnP5md3
