Senate Committee Postpones Affirmation Listening to on Biden OMB Decide After Manchin Leads Revolt Over Imply Tweets

The Senate Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee is postponing its hearing on Wednesday for confirmation Neera teethPresident Joe Biden’s election as director of the Office of Administration and Budget (OMB) Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV) announced that he will vote against her based on her record of posting mean tweets.

Axios, who first covered the news, calls it “a possible death knell” for Tanden’s confirmation, though it might give the White House in Biden time to try to bolster support among Republican senators.

Tanden would be the first black woman to head OMB.

Manchin’s breathtaking announcement on Friday resulted in three Republicans jumping on board and also announcing their opposition.

None of the opponents bother with qualifications – Tanden, a policy expert, has headed the Center for American Progress for nearly a decade and has worked in both Clinton and Obama White Houses.

“Oh come on”: Joe Manchin insists on opposition to first woman of the color OMB nominees “is not personal”

“We are postponing the business meeting because the members need more time to review the candidate,” an unnamed committee adviser told Axios. “The president deserves to have a team he wants and we will work with our members to figure out the best way forward.”

But many Democrats see Manchin’s opposition as nothing more than sexism, misogyny and racism. He voted for far less qualified candidates with far greater problems than Tanden, who were all men and mostly white men. Among them was Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who was not only credibly charged with sexual assault but also launched a shocking on-camera assault that promised revenge during his confirmation hearing.

“Other supporters have accused Tanden’s opponents of hypocrisy, stating that Manchin and many Republican senators voted to endorse the nominations of President Trump, who also posted caustic tweets,” added Axios.

Manchin followed up his opposition to Tanden by suggesting that Biden’s candidate for the leadership of the Home Office, a seated Native American Congressman Deb Haaland, may not be supported.
