Sen. Amanda Chase information civil rights criticism in opposition to Virginia Senate

RICHMOND, Virginia (WDBJ) – A Virginia State Senator attorney Amanda Chase is filing a lawsuit against the Virginia Senate on Monday for civil rights violations related to public criticism against Chase.

Chase, a Republican candidate for governor of Virginia, received public criticism from the Senate for what she believed violated the fourteenth amendment’s equality clause as well as its first amendment, along with “a total disregard for obeying it [the Virginia Senate] own rules for the orderly process when issuing criticism. “The lawsuit alleges that Chase is singled out for unpopular political positions that are disagreed by a majority in the Virginia Senate. It is also alleged that the criticism was for language and expression protected by the first amendment to the US Constitution.

A press release from Senator Chase’s campaign said she was “seeking a temporary injunction against Defendant Susan Clarke Schaar to allow SR91 to be published in the Virginia Senate Official Gazette” pending the closure of the case. Chase wants, among other things, a declaratory judgment that the critic violated their rights to initial amendments and a declaratory judgment that they did not behave in a disorderly manner under Article 4 Section 7 of the Virginia Constitution.
