Ron Johnson Dragged for ‘Extremely Ignorant’ Declare About How Greenland Received Its Identify

Contested US Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI), already under fire for supporting the insurrection and the “big lie” and for having trusted the domestic terrorists of MAGA against Black Lives Matter protesters and for spreading Russian disinformation, is now the target of ridicule his false claim of how Greenland got its name.

The autonomous territory that is part of the Kingdom of Denmark seems to have a certain fascination with the GOP. Although it covers more than 830,000 square miles, Greenland has a population of only 56,000 people. And President Donald Trump infamously wanted to buy the island – perhaps because it is the largest in the world – or exchange it for Puerto Rico.

A New York Times profile wasted the Wisconsin Republican Senator, accusing him of “attacking the truth” and calling him “the main reinforcer of the Republican Party’s conspiracy theories and disinformation.”

“Mr. Johnson, the Republican Senator from Wisconsin, advanced false theories about the virus, vaccine, and January 6th attack on the Capitol, and cushioned his party’s transformation under Donald Trump.”

The Times says Johnson has a “penchant for anti-intellectualism” and “is an all-access provider of misinformation on serious issues such as the pandemic and the legitimacy of American democracy, using the etymology of Greenland to downplay the effects of climate change.” “

John “offered a false history of Greenland to discard the effects of global warming.”

“You know, there’s a reason Greenland is called Greenland,” Mr Johnson told WKOW-TV in Madison at the time. “At one point it was actually green. And it’s gotten a lot whiter since then, so we’ve seen climate change throughout geological time. “

In an interview on Thursday, Mr Johnson was still misinformed about the etymology of Greenland, which got its name from the attempt by researcher Erik the Red to lure settlers to the ice-covered island.

“I might be wrong there, but it was always my assumption that those early explorers saw green at some point,” said Mr. Johnson. “I have no idea.”

It wasn’t long before the ridicule began.

Ron Johnson once insisted that there was a “secret society” in the FBI. He said the January 6 terrorists were anti-fascists – before saying they were peaceful Trump supporters who wouldn’t hurt a fly. He spread Russian disinformation about Biden’s son. He also has thoughts on Greenland. https://t.co/YRzEAvnjLe

Ron Johnson loves to lie, but let’s do him some credit: Sometimes he’s just incredibly ignorant.

For example: No, @SenRonJohnson, Greenland didn’t get its name because it used to be green. Climate change didn’t turn it into ice. https://t.co/98cq9FJznU pic.twitter.com/UzbGQrgPT4

Ron Johnson mistakenly believes it is called Greenland because it was once green. I have known how Greenland got its name since I was 11 years old. I’m not a Russian asset either. https://t.co/1EpVPNHZRl

@RonJohnsonWI @SenRonJohnson you’re just always embarrassed about WI. Is this an example of a covid brain? The conspiracy thoughts just keep coming. #greenland https://t.co/NHKVSz0TtF

America’s Dumbest Senator @RonJohnsonWI think Greenland was once green but now it’s white so climate change isn’t a problem? https://t.co/ctFo3aYoLY

The fact that Greenland is “much whiter now” could explain Johnson’s appeal. https://t.co/lMCHKEFyDv

Erik the Red has been dead for over a thousand years and he still ropes in fools like Ron Johnson with the Greenlandic bit https://t.co/Pv3i53vJYx

Ron Johnson was formerly chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe and Regional Security Co-operation (under the Committee on Foreign Relations) and has no fundamental facts about Greenland. https://t.co/6hA4BNuyPO

We learned that in fourth grade. Iceland is green, Greenland has ice. https://t.co/TBqXileUKv

Only in America do we choose a simple fuck like Ron Johnson, who believes that Greenland was once really just green and somehow turned white. He’s like the Senate idiot everyone laughs at.

This is so embarrassing … “

Ron Johnson believes Greenland turned white (right?) From global warming. I think he believes that anything a country does white can’t be that bad https://t.co/kz8gtUMYlK
