Ron Johnson Dragged for ‘Extremely Ignorant’ Declare About How Greenland Received Its Identify

Contested US Senator Ron Johnson (R-WI), already under fire for supporting the insurrection and the “big lie” and for having trusted the domestic terrorists of MAGA against Black Lives Matter protesters and for spreading Russian disinformation, is now the target of ridicule his false claim of how Greenland got its name.

The autonomous territory that is part of the Kingdom of Denmark seems to have a certain fascination with the GOP. Although it covers more than 830,000 square miles, Greenland has a population of only 56,000 people. A New York Times profile wasted the Wisconsin Republican Senator, accusing him of “attacking the truth” and calling him “the main reinforcer of the Republican Party’s conspiracy theories and disinformation.”

The Times says Johnson has a “penchant for anti-intellectualism” and “is an all-access provider of misinformation on serious issues such as the pandemic and the legitimacy of American democracy, using the etymology of Greenland to downplay the effects of climate change.” “

In an interview on Thursday, Mr Johnson was still misinformed about the etymology of Greenland, which got its name from the attempt by researcher Erik the Red to lure settlers to the ice-covered island.

“I might be wrong there, but it was always my assumption that those early explorers saw green at some point,” said Mr. Johnson. “I have no idea.”
