Prime Home Dem Blasts McCarthy’s ‘Character and Health to Lead’ After Opposing Jan. 6 Fee

The top Democrat on the powerful House Rules Committee is furious Kevin McCarthy after the Republican minority leader withdrew Tuesday’s support for a January 6 commission Tuesday. McCarthy had initially supported one and even made demands on the structure. The Democrats complied with McCarthy’s demands, but he pulled the carpet out of them anyway.

“I’m mad to be honest” Chairman Jim McGovern (D-MA) told reporters after reading McCarthy’s testimony, as reported by Talking Points Memo.

“What frustrates me is that this doesn’t seem to be a substance or policy disagreement,” added Chairman McCarthy. “I think it’s a question of character and ability to lead.”

“I assume that Trump got wind of what we did and called the minority leader and said I don’t like it,” said McGovern with “disgust,” reports TPM, calling it “pathetic” .

Fox News notes that McGovern said he was “stunned” and called McCarthy’s statement “alarming”.

“If there is someone in this chamber who doesn’t believe that it is important to find out the truth about what happened on the sixth, or who wants to believe that what happened on the sixth didn’t happen on the sixth Like a typical tourist day at the Capitol, they are unable to serve in that chamber, ”said McGovern.

Fox News reports that he “raised his voice” and added, “It’s pathetic.”

McGovern wasn’t finished. He beat up McCarthy even more on Twitter.

“We gave him what he asked for. But now? He goes back to his word. He cares more about worshiping Trump and spreading the big lie than upholding his oath. “

Here’s a letter @GOPLeader Kevin McCarthy sent to the Democratic leadership setting out his motions for a commission on January 6th.

Some political experts refer to McCarthy’s move as an “open-air cover-up” and a “repetition of the GOP’s attempt to stop the investigation into Russia”.
