New e-book serves as companion to landmarks of the Civil Rights motion

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – A new book on the Civil Rights Trail, which runs through Alabama and 14 other states, is on the shelves. This week the author is signing copies!

“As the world continues to recover from recent events in the struggle for racial justice, cultural tourism is more important than ever,” said Alabama writer and tourism director Lee Sentell. “Montgomery travelers have the opportunity to visit landmarks along the way in their own backyard to connect with these bold stories and gain a deeper understanding of the meaning of the events that took place during the movement.”

Sentell wrote the book as a companion, a guide to the Civil Rights Trail, which includes more than 120 historical landmarks. The idea is to bring the stories and history of the civil rights movement in America to life as people visit the places and buildings where some of the movement’s most significant moments took place.

It includes many Montgomery destinations like the Legacy Museum and National Memorial for Peace and Justice, Rosa Parks Museum, Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church. The book offers visitors the opportunity to share the civil rights movement’s journey and tell the story of how “what happened here changed the world” long after their visit was over.
