The COVID-19 pandemic is being treated as a catastrophic event on workers’ payrolls, according to the National Council on Compensation Insurance.
The Boca Raton, Florida-based NCCI announced Tuesday that it has begun filing annual jurisdiction-specific loss cost / experience reports with suggested expiration dates from November 2021 to August 2022 and exempting COVID-19 claims from determining loss costs and rates because they are not expected to predict claims experience.
NCCI also said it will address future pandemic losses during the charging season, either by including a proposed change to the definition of disaster to include every single event or hazard that results in total worker losses of more than 50 in states with approved disaster risk reduction Million US dollars, or propose such a move to states that have not approved a disaster determination (other than certified acts of terrorism).
