Matt Gaetz’s Legislation Faculty Classmates Need Him to Resign — and Reveal Particulars of His School Years
In interviews with Business Insider, former classmates of Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) expressed dismay at the ongoing reports of his sex scandals during his visit to the William & Mary Law School and urged him to resign immediately.
Along the way, they remembered his hard parties when they were at school with him, and added one of his recent exploits that put him under federal investigation: “Am I surprised that he goes out with people or does that sort of thing? No.”
The report said: “In interviews, many of Gaetz’s former friends and acquaintances in 2007 class at William & Mary Law School said they were embarrassed by the constant headlines about the GOP Congressman’s scandals. Insider spoke to 14 of Gaetz’s former classmates. Most of them spoke on condition of anonymity in order to protect personal and professional relationships.
Insider reports that “of the more than 500 William & Mary Law School alumni who signed a petition to resign Gaetz, 34 were members of Gaetz’s own 2007 class, of whom a total of about 200 were people.”
A former classmate admitted that he feared any report on lawmakers.
“Every time The Daily Beast publishes a different story on a Friday it’s like, ‘Oh boy, get on Twitter,'” they said.
During the interviews, emails from Gaetz’s college days were shared, one of which was an invitation to a Super Bowl party that also promised gambling and strippers – what a member of the now Florida-based lawmaker described as a joke.
“His invitation contained specific inquiries: chips, one-dollar bills and strippers,” reports Insider, while he quotes Gaetz, “I can ask you to bring a few little things (napkins, cups, chips, strippers, ext.). PS – After When you put in all of your email addresses, it’s painfully obvious that I don’t know enough girls – so bring some with you. “
According to the schoolmate, who said they weren’t surprised by the Legislature’s current parties, they admitted they were stunned that he might have had sex with underage women, telling Insider Gaetz, “… has a very high level of Self-preservation. I’m surprised he didn’t check your credentials. “
“Gaetz’s reputation in law school – eye-catching with a boyish vibe – is similar to how he appears as a congressman, said a former classmate, ‘unless he’s more exaggerated now,'” the report said. “As a law student, Gaetz lived in a large, multi-bedroom house near campus, more luxurious than the cramped apartments some of his classmates lived in. He often invited friends there to play cards or drink from a barrel in the cellar. “
“There are a handful of students who have turned out to be particularly intelligent, others to be particularly aggressive – we call them ‘Gunners’,” explained a former classmate, before Gaetz added, “it was neither. He’s always been a kind of liaison boy. “
While a former classmate described Gaetz as “embarrassing for the institution,” another said of his attempt to discard the election results that led to the loss of Donald Trump: “He’s undermining our system of government and the rule of law. Of course, it’s not great to have Matt among our alumni. It is not really the person you want to refer to as a role model. “
