Matt Gaetz Pal Joel Greenberg Now Scheduled to Enter Plea Deal in Fraud and Intercourse Trafficking Case
Two of the reporters who released news of the investigation into Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) say lawmakers are on the verge of an even worse situation.
The Florida Republican is under investigation for potential sex trafficking in at least one minor, and two Daily Beast reporters covering the case told the site’s Fever Dreams podcast that the coming week will bring a number of new challenges , since Gaetz friend Joel Greenberg is expected to conclude a cooperation agreement with public prosecutors.
“We know this is heating up again, especially because we have a deadline on May 15 for Greenberg to become a fully cooperating witness for the government,” said Daily Beast reporter Jose Pagliery, “and it’s not just that. ” We also hear that the government is pressuring other people who know about it directly. “
“The world for Matt Gaetz looks extremely difficult in the short term because there is not just evidence,” added Pagliery, “there is a lot of evidence and there is multiple witnesses.”
Pagliery and colleague Roger Sollenberger said they were able to build much of their coverage through sources on Instagram that had ties to Gaetz and Greenburg.
“These are people who are amateur Instagram models,” Pagliery said. “So many of them were would-be escorts. They wanted to project a version of themselves into the galaxy, and, you know, I got so … incredulous at one point a few weeks ago that I decided to tweet, “You think you’re doing it for your brand, but you are actually doing it for my investigation, “because these people are only bringing it out in the front and in the middle.”
