Kevin McCarthy Squirms as Chris Wallace Grills Him on Trump’s Seditious Habits on Jan. 6

Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), chairman of the minority of the House of Representatives, denied allegations that President Donald Trump reached out to him to coordinate an alibi after the Capitol was attacked by Trump-backing insurgents on Jan. 6 .

Fox News host Chris Wallace confronted McCarthy with a phone call he had with Trump shortly after the attack on the Capitol.

“Well, Kevin, I think these people are more upset about the election than you are,” Trump told McCarthy at the time, according to Rep. Herrera Beutler (R-WA).

“Is she right?” Wallace asked. “Is that what President Trump said to you?”

“What he ended the call was to say – he told me he was going to get something out to make sure this stopped [riot]McCarthy said. “And that’s exactly what he did. He later posted a video.”

“Much later,” said Wallace. “And it was a pretty weak video. But I ask you specifically. Did he tell you some people are more concerned about the choice than you are? “

“No, listen,” McCarthy replied. “My conversations with the President are my conversations with the President. The idea got me to make sure we can stop what is going on in the Capitol at this point. The president said he would help. “

Wallace said, “Has the President ever reached out to you since this report was published to discuss what he and you were talking about on the Jan. 6 phone call? And did you say to him: I cannot, because we are under oath.

“No,” said McCarthy.

“That never happened?” Wallace asked.

“That never happened,” McCarthy insisted. “Never close.”

“And if it did, would you agree that this would be witness manipulation?” Wallace watched.

“Yes, but it never happened!” McCarthy said. “I’ve never come close, never had a conversation like this.”
