Kayleigh McEnany Smacked Down for Tweet Praising MLK

Outgoing White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany has faced an onslaught of criticism after posting a tweet on MLK Day saying Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is commended.

McEnany called Dr. King “a hero who embodied love and faith in his pursuit of equality” published a quote from the legendary civil rights leader. Given that, as one social media user said, she, along with her president and party, “tried to overturn millions of black votes,” this is an incredible uniqueness.

Today we honor a hero who embodied love and faith in his pursuit of equality: Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

“A man’s ultimate measure is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands in times of challenge and controversy.”

– MLK Jr.

And she posted this quote on her personal Twitter account:

“We have to learn to live together as brothers or to die together as fools.”

– Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. left a legacy of faith, love, and equality.

He made America better.

He was a true servant of Christ.

Today we honor him!

Early Monday morning, Bernice King, the youngest daughter of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King, a plea, a reminder, and a warning:

Please don’t act like everyone loved my father. He was murdered. A 1967 poll found he was one of the most hated men in America. Most hated. Many who now quote and swear to him to deter justice today would likely hate the authentic king, and perhaps already hate it. #MLK pic.twitter.com/yGdQXL5MJ3

This is how some respond to McEnany’s remarks.

They made everything violent that Dr. King stood. You have nothing to do with quoting him. https://t.co/JqkcJZSFGT

(That’s an actual tweet from McEnany, original here.)

You just couldn’t have tweeted today. That would have been okay too.

This … person … is amazing. She spends weeks justifying casting millions of African American votes – something Bull Connor and George Wallace would dream of – and then has the gall to quote Martin Luther King Jr.’s insincere fraud. @PressSec https://t.co/HCTvs2lXy2

See? This is the shit I’m talking about. I don’t want racist rubbish that MLK would have despised if they were alive when it was active co-opt its message to support White Supremacy. https://t.co/QrqtyT6PDq

How dare you quote MLK after standing by a white supremacist who was president in dividing this country up on lies and conspiracy theories? #MLKDay https://t.co/5mx9boWsHu

Hey, you really have to put this on hold. https://t.co/Wz0DQ20aWy

Racist whites who are Dr. Quote King, provoke me. https://t.co/xHOQIbwuTy

They spread lies about election fraud to cast black votes to keep Trump in office. Sit down and keep MLK’s name out of your mouth. https://t.co/GUk6Aca3h8
