ATLANTA, GA – Civil Rights Attorney Mawuli Mel Davis, founding partner of Davis Bozeman Law Firm in DeKalb County, was the keynote speaker for the first inaugural virtual and sixty-first inaugural exercises at the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) Recognized for his work as a freedom fighter with the February 27th Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters.

The quote from ITC President Matthew W. Williams in honor of Davis reads in part:

“You have been dubbed ‘The Liberation Lawyer’ because of your reputation as an activist advocate ready to fight injustices wherever and whenever they exist. Under your leadership, you successfully represented Morehouse College student Messiah Young during his summer 2020 confrontation with police officers in downtown Atlanta, Georgia. You are part of the legal team that successfully represented Basil Eleby, a man falsely accused of causing the collapse of the I-85 Highway, and Baby AJ, a two-year-old baby in need of a kidney transplant. Your ongoing work has resulted in the end of “cash borrowing” in Atlanta, Georgia, and the removal of the Confederate Memorial in the city of Decatur, Georgia. Their work has upheld the principles of the law while demanding justice for the oppressed, marginalized and discounted. Your work told the truth to power despite reaffirming the dignity, beauty, and potential of black and brown children.

Davis thanked Rev. Williams and ITC for the honor.
