Invoice Barr Waged a Secret Court docket Battle With CNN to Get hold of Reporter’s E mail Logs
Legal experts sounded the alarm after a bomb was unsealed in court showing that the Justice Department, headed by Bill Barr, attempted to use a secret subpoena from the grand jury to discover the identity of a spoofed Twitter account belonging to MP Devin Nunes (R-CA).
“President Trump’s Justice Department secretly received a subpoena from a grand jury last year to identify the person behind a Twitter account devoted to ridiculing California MP Devin Nunes, according to a recently unsealed court document. But Twitter fought the subpoena, as well as an associated gag order that prohibited the company from speaking publicly about it. Twitter executives expressed skepticism about whether the Justice Department could abuse federal law enforcement powers to avenge a critic of Mr. Nunes, a Republican who is a close ally of Mr. Trump, in violation of the First Amendment, The York Times reported on Monday.
The subpoena was withdrawn after Biden took office, but the new documents show that Twitter is blowing the subpoena.
“Twitter appears that the subpoena is related to Congressman Devin Nunes’ repeated efforts to expose people behind parody accounts who are critical of him. His efforts to suppress critical remarks are as well known as unsuccessful, “wrote Twitter in a motion against the exposure of the author. “Given the numerous attempts by Congressman Nunes to expose his anonymous critics on Twitter – which are detailed here – Twitter is concerned that this subpoena is just another mechanism to attack the First Amendment rights of its users.”
“In the past two years, Congressman Nunes and his campaign committee have filed at least nine lawsuits – including in this district – against individuals, the media, and a research and intelligence firm for disagreement with either his policies and statements published that Congressman Nunes viewed himself critically or made critical statements that Congressman Nunes disagreed with, ”argued the social media company.
The account in question said it was about “silencing” critics.
There is nothing remarkable about me. I’m a simple smartass with a Twitter account.
Then why am I being sued by a US Congressman? Why would the DOJ ever target me?
Is it the mean tweets and bad memes?
It’s not about me or that stupid account. It’s about silencing us all. https://t.co/kdU87LVZI2

Legal experts blew up Barr’s DOJ on the subpoena. Former New York Assistant Attorney Richard Signorelli called for an investigation by the U.S. Assistant Attorney (AUSA) who signed the subpoena.
This outrageous subpoena was issued by AUSA Michael J. Friedman. He should have refused the job. Instead, it must now be examined. https://t.co/JLghuylbMX

Michael Friedman may not be the only attorney under investigation on the subpoena.
Former federal attorney Daniel Goldman, who served as majority attorney in Donald Trump’s first impeachment trial, said Barr should lose his bar license.
What possible basis could Barr’s DOJ have for issuing this subpoena? This appears to be Barr using the formidable power of a grand jury summons as a personal favor to a political ally. Barr should no longer have a legal license. https://t.co/8womLNdtFo
